Put your own icon on the browser address

Have you seen FronTools icon? Would you like to put your own icon on the browser address? It’s easy and we will help you. As Monika says “By having your very own unique favicon you can set yourself apart from millions of other online users. It’s kind of like a signature of your website/blog”. It will make a difference; give your site an identity and a visual improvement.
But how can we do it? There are some cool free tools on the web:
- Online fav-icon creator - create an icon from an image or just draw it, this one is my favourite;
- Favicom Editor – create an icon from an image or draw it;
- FavIcon from Pics – create an icon from an image, suggested by Monika;
- FreeFavicons – create an icon from an image;
- Or you can just download a favicon already created!
Using one of the tools above you can create your icon. Them you must upload it to the root of your site and insert the following code in your site’s main index page, just before the </head> tag:
<link rel=”shortcut icon” href=”/favicon.ico” mce_href=”/favicon.ico” />
To test it in Internet Explorer, add your site to Favorites and reopen browser. In Firefox or other Mozilla-based browser just open your web page.
Try it and let me know how it worked!

Thanks for the mentioning of my humble self. Your favicon looks great by the way. I also love the site’s purpose.
Wishing you much Success
Monika

Hi from New York! I came across your blog posting after searching for build your own website and your post on our own icon on the browser address makes an interesting read. Thanks for sharing. I will research more next Wednesday when I have the day off.
I found out how to do this from one of my friends. It’s pretty handy if you want something cute on your URL but I see no real use for it.
Hi Jenny,
it works as a branding atitude
I don’t see a favicon in the URL box for your site, I’ve used IE, Firefox, Opera and Maxthon all with nothing, just thought I’d let you know, unless you’ve taken it out for whatever reason.

Hi there,
Great article!
I’ve written something a-like on my blog a while ago. Check here how to create a favicon with Photoshop. It’s easier than “painting pixels” on those websites.

Greetings & Keep on bloggin,,
I like to use http://www.freefavicon.com/ for creating favicons from images. They also have a ton of free favicons you can just look through if you don’t want to create your own.
Thanks zer0-kill,

Marco and LGR, thanks for your comments.
No problem, looks like it works in Firefox, however not in Internet Explorer, haven’t tried the others, I’ll try when I get home though.

I am using prosense theme and have placed favicon icon in the ../theme/ProSense/ProSense folder but I am unable to see the favicon.
Thanks
Vinod
Hi Vinod!
did you put the code in the in your site? Try to put the icon in the root of your site.
Let me know if it worked.
Joliveira
Hi Joliveira,
I have put the favicon in wordpress folder which is root folder in my laptop, I am using wamp server.
I had in past used guzel-pro theme and had favicon inside the ../theme/guzel-pro/ folder and it was working fine both in localhost and in website.
I plan to develop the site first in localhost and the host this time but favicon isn’t coming
Thanks for the quick reply Joliveira…
Thanks
Vinod
